TDSN Scholarship Program
TDSN established a scholarship program to aid our members in meeting certain financial obligations in selected areas of interest and concern. Our budget dollars are limited and will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis. Unless otherwise noted, priority will be given to TDSN members who have volunteered in the previous year for TDSN.
To qualify for available funding, the requester must be a current member of TDSN. An application can be made on behalf of the member or can be made by the member on behalf of an educator. Priority will be given to those members who have not received scholarships in previous years. Payment will be in the form of reimbursement once proof of payment is submitted to TDSN.
Funding will be available as follows: Teacher/school support: Funding can be requested for the purchase and distribution of educational materials for a school library or teacher support to further the understanding and inclusion of children with Down syndrome in a school environment. Grants are limited to $100.00.
Teacher education: Funding can be requested to defray a portion of the cost for a educator to attend a TDSN sponsored event. These events include – but are not limited to – a TDSN sponsored conference or TDSN banquet. These grants are limited to the full entrance fee of the event. TDSN will not grant any funding to cover a spouse attending the event. Grants are limited to the fee that TDSN collects and does not include transportation, or additional costs for meals or conference materials (if not included).
Parent attendance at TDSN sponsored events: Funding can be requested by a TDSN member to defray part or all of the cost of attending a TDSN event. This events include – but are not limited to – a TDSN sponsored event or TDSN banquet. To apply for these grants, the TDSN member must indicate the approximate number of hours they have volunteered for TDSN over the last 12 months.
Parent attendance at non-TDSN sponsored events – i.e. national Down syndrome related conferences. Funding can be requested by a TDSN member to defray up to $200, but not to exceed the price of the conference entrance fee. To apply for these funds, the TDSN member must indicate the approximate number of hours they have volunteered for TDSN over the last 12 months. They must have been a significant contributor to one of our yearly events or have been a steady (but not as significant) contributor to a series of events. TDSN will not consider a funding request for transportation, hotel or related living expenses for these conferences. Any parent that receives reimbursement for at least a portion of the conference fee is required to share information any knowledge gained at the conference through an article in our newsletter and/or by hosting a parent support meeting where they share the information.
